Ms. Nadia Iqbal, CEO, and Co-founder of Tech Alpha Logix, recently participated in the inaugural meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the National Human Development Report (NHDR) 2023, formed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). As part of the committee, which comprises 33 members, Ms. Iqbal represented Gilgit Baltistan and shared her expertise to shape the discussions of the committee. The meeting was attended by experts from various organizations such as UNDP, NADRA, NHDR, KP IT Board, PITB, and other NGOs.
Ms. Nadia Iqbal provided valuable insights, highlighting the importance of modern digital infrastructure and renewable energy sources in the IT industry. She specifically stressed the need for satellite-based internet infrastructure in regions like Gilgit Baltistan, where the mountainous terrain makes it difficult to install fiber optic cables.
specifically mentioned during the meeting the potential benefits of bringing Starlink by SpaceX to Pakistan. She highlighted that Starlink’s satellite-based internet service could greatly benefit regions with limited or no internet access, especially in remote areas like Gilgit Baltistan. By suggesting this, Ms. Iqbal is advocating for innovative solutions to address the country’s digital divide and improve access to information and communication technologies (ICTs).
Furthermore, Ms. Iqbal emphasized the importance of providing 24/7 electricity to every IT setup, which can be achieved through renewable energy sources. She noted that a lack of electricity hinders the country’s ability to compete in the international market due to connectivity issues.
We commend Ms. Nadia Iqbal for her efforts to improve the digital sector in Pakistan and her active participation in this crucial meeting. We look forward to seeing the country’s progress in the coming years, thanks to the valuable insights provided by Ms. Nadia Iqbal and the other experts in attendance.
